Mould (mold) Testing and Removal

Mold Testing and Removal in Halifax Nova Scotia

mold Testing and Removal

Unfortunately, some of our offices have poor ventilation and high humidity which is a breading environment for mold (mould). As the mold grows it increases and aggravates the workplace related illnesses that have plagued many of us. We miss work and find that when we go back to work our breathing becomes worse. In some cases we need to look for another job due to the poor air quality in our workplace.

It is true that mold is part of our natural environment, but indoor mold can hurt you and your family! Mould (mold) in your house releases tiny spores, which reproduce and contaminates the air that our families breathe. Mold-related illnesses are often misdiagnosed because those who are suffering are not even aware that they have a mold problem in their home. Poor air quality is a major concern to people who suffer respratory illnesses.

First, we find the mold in your building. Where does the mould (mold) grow? Are they in the crawlspaces, plumbing, basement, attic, closet or hidden in a bathroom wall? These are some common locations for mould (mold) to grow. Throughout the mold inspection, sophisticated equipment is used to locate where the mould (mold) is living and growing.

Second, we determine the cause of the mold growth. Often, mold requires water to grow; therefore we look for a source of excessive and unusual moisture. Common sources include:

•Leaks around pipes.

•Areas of high humidity

•Holes or leaks in the roof

•Wet carpets

•Basements

•Damp Areas

•Wet Giprock

Third, we make our recommendations. We will let you know where the mold is located and the steps we need to take to solve your mold problem. Every situation is unique and we tailor our advice for your specific mold removal situation.

Once we have given our advice we are quite able to take the steps necessary to remove the mold and eliminate the problem.

Asbestos Removal

Asbestos is a mineral that creates very fine fibers that no one has been able to duplicate and it is one of the strongest fibers know to man. It is hard to breakdown and destroy by tearing cutting or even explosion and fire. This has led to asbestos in a lot of products. It has been used by firemen and fire fighting equipment as it will not burn; It has also been used in insulation in the form of vermiculite in our buildings and homes. It has been used in building material to strengthen its composition, for example 9×9 ceiling tiles and 9X9 floor tiles.

Asbestos is also found in post 1983 plaster as well as drywall. Asbestos is dangerous to the human lung as these fibers can breakdown small enough and pass through your nose and into your lungs. They lodge in your lungs as little needles. Your bodies immune system cannot identify this product as it is foreign to your body. The cells around your lungs try to remove it but become over tasked and die. The surrounding cells and your immune system try to eliminate the remainder and meet the same fate. This could grow throughout your lungs. Asbestos does not normally become air born unless it is disturbed. It can breakdown if there is an air flow over the surface or becomes wet.

Asbestos should only be handled by trained technicians under mechanically controlled conditions.

Crime & Trauma Scene Clean- Up

Today with HIV Hepatitis, Syphilis, AIDS, Tuberculosis and other diseases, Federal, Provincial agencies have issued regulation outlining the precautions needed to handle blood and body fluids. Decontamination and Crime Scene Technicians provide regulatory-compliant on-site cleaning decontamination and restoration of property damaged by blood, body fluids, decomposition projectiles, animal contamination, growth filth and other physical destruction associated with dead or injured victims.

Radon Testing

Radon is a colourless, odourless gas. It is formed by the natural breakdown of uranium in the ground. Radon that escapes from the ground into the outdoor air is diluted to such a low concentration that it is not a concern. Radon that enters an enclosed space, such as a home, can sometimes concentrate to dangerous levels. Exposure to high levels of radon increases the risk of developing lung cancer.

Air pressure differences between the inside and outside of your home will draw air and other gases such as radon, into your home. Soil containing radon gas can allow the gas to seep into a house through any opening in the basement where the basement comes in contact with the surrounding soil. Even the newer, better built homes can have radon contamination.

Most homes have some radon gas contamination. Health Canada has found that some parts of the country may have higher levels of radon then other parts. Radon levels can vary between homes, even homes located next to each other. Radon amounts in a home depend upon many factors such as soil attributes, construction materials, foundation design and materials, occupant lifestyle and climate. Since radon concentration varies from house to house even in the same area, the only way to find out if you have radon in your home is to have your home tested for radon.

Concrete and Crack Repairs

The saying that “your house is only as good as its foundation” is never more important then when there is a crack. Water will seep in and cause mould (mold) and mildew problems that are not only unhealthy but difficult to remove. We will permanently fix the crack in your basement and remove the mould. Enjoy the added living space, improve the property value and sleep better knowing that your basement is dry and mould free.

Bat Removal

Animals, especially bats, transmit disease as other wild animals might. Precautions need to be taken to remove the bats and their droppings. We use protective devices and materials when we deal with bats. Having a bat bite you or your children would not be very safe. Their droppings could also carry many dangerous diseases.

Methamphetamine- Clandestine Laboratory Remediation

Across Canada there has been a growing concern about the use, production and trafficking of Methamphetamine. The R.C.M.P. dismantled 39 clandestine labs in 2003 versus two in 1998. Greater numbers of clandestine lab seizure in Canada indicate that the industry is expanding, although admittedly not all clandestine labs produce methamphetamine. Methamphetamine is commonly referred to as meth speed, crank ice and crystal. It can be smoked or injected with an initial rush or feeling of euphoria.

It is a highly addictive substance with many first time users becoming addicted. The drug is made quickly and easily in clandestine laboratories with inexpensive, easily obtainable ingredients.

There are two types of laboratories one is the economic based lab which is highly organized lab that can produce from a few hundred grams to 50 Kg in one production cycle.

The other is a mom & pop, Beavis and Butthead or addiction base lab. These labs generally manufacture only one to four ounces of methamphetamine per production cycle.

In the manufacturing of methamphetamine for every kilogram of manufactured meth it will produces 6-10 kilograms of hazardous waste. Methamphetamine production operation also pose serious public safety and health hazards to those in and around production operations. These operations can result in serious physical injury from explosions, fire, chemical burns and toxic fumes.

They produce environmental hazards, pose clean-up problems and endanger the lives and health of other community residents.

At Cumberland specialty cleaning systems we have the equipment and the properly trained certified personnel to deal with all types of drug houses and over 23yrs experience in the restoration business.
